The Best (and Worst) Marketing Trends Right Now

A coffee cup and empty journal to indicate new opportunities

Struggling to keep up with marketing trends? Marketing moves at a dizzying pace these days. Every year, and even every month, new trends pop up and fizzle out. Some last much longer than I feel like they should, like a bad cold you just can’t seem to get rid of. How to keep up?

Well, as someone who has a vested interest in marketing, I thought I’d curate a quick list of marketing trends I’m really into and some that I’d block right now if I could.

Content specialists and social media managers can work small miracles but unfortunately, even we don’t have that kind of power. Yet.

Trends I Love

1. Personality-Driven Brands

People still seem to want to talk to people. Not robots.

Brands that show a little humor and heart are still winning over brands that sound like a quick copy and paste was all they had time for.

Remember the last time you were trying to get an answer through an automated call service? How many times did you just want to shout, “Can I just talk to a real person??” Yeah, it’s still like that in marketing.

2. Long-Form Storytelling Content

Trends come and go but a brand that uses their true, authentic voice to tell a client what they’re all about? Still timeless. If you’re going to put out an article, website or social media post, would you rather it be relevant for a week or for years to come?

3. Educational Content

Short educational posts like carousels, quick how-to reels, or articles are enjoying their time in the sun.

People still want to know how exactly to do things, especially if someone is relaying their own experiences in a meaningful way. They want to know what worked for others. They want to find other people who had their problem and what they did to solve it.

4. SEO is Still Important… in a Different Way

SEO is definitely different than what it was. However, simple blog posts, articles, and keyword-researched website copy are still bringing free, organic traffic to small businesses and brands.

Did I mention it’s still free?

5. Finding the Right Audience

More brands are realizing they don’t need a million eyes on their product. If only 100 people view a product or a brand but they’re the 100 people ready to buy, those impressions are so much more valuable than having thousands of people view it during a mindless social media scroll.

Trends I’m Over

1. Constant Trend-Hopping

If your entire marketing strategy depends on memes or dances, it makes your brand blend in and disappear into an already crowded space.

Chasing trends without strategy might get you a few more impressions and clicks, but what you really want is engagement, consideration, and, eventually, loyalty. I’m not saying following trends never works but ask yourself this: does following a trend align with your brand’s voice? Does it convey what you really do or are able to give your potential client or customer?

2. “Sales-pitchy” Content

If it sounds like it belongs on a box of toothpaste in the grocery store aisle, it probably sounds a little like you’re trying too hard. It all goes back to people wanting to talk to people, doesn’t it? If your brand uses language like, “Act now! Our cutting-edge solutions are GUARANTEED to deliver mind-blowing results. Limited spots available — sign up TODAY before it’s too late!”…

You might want to calm down.

3. Complicated Funnels aka Rabbit Holes

If it takes 17 steps, three freebies, and a secret handshake to become a client… it’s too complicated. I can’t even find my phone half the time, much less the end of a mile long scroll through five sales pitches, a video, and a podcast to get to the end of a funnel.

Don’t get me wrong. A good marketing funnel still holds a special place in my heart, if done correctly. I don’t want to feel like I’m disappearing down a rabbit hole only to end up in a place I really wasn’t even trying to go.

4. Content for Content’s Sake

Posting just to say you posted? Generated in a few seconds’ time? It won’t serve its purpose. It’s a waste of your energy and your audience’s time, and it doesn’t convey your brand’s unique voice.

The Verdict?

Marketing trends will keep changing. But real connection, clear messaging, and smart strategy never goes out of style.

If you’re ready to regain your time and and build brand content that generates interest instead of burnout, you’re in the right place.
